Everyone has a birthday, and mine is coming up on April 26th. I have some goals set for this month, but first, I’m making sure I have something to do on my birthday. I don’t have a boyfriend partner person in my life, so I have to plan my birthday things, and that’s fine. As long as I get my cake—the kind with the white buttercream frosting you get at the Safeway bakery will do—I’m pretty content to keep things chill.
My birthday falls on a Saturday this year, and I’m having a combined party with two fellow Taurus friends (Alison and Julie) with birthdays close to mine. I’ll be 56, which isn’t a milestone or an especially sexy number, so it’ll be a fun little gathering at Julie’s where we’ll sing a lot of karaoke together. It’s what we do.
I know it’s hard to feel hopeful right now, but today I feel a little better emotionally than I have in a while, thanks to the energy brought by Cory “So Fine” Booker during his record-breaking filibuster that started on Monday night at 7 pm and ended just over 25 hours later. I wrote about it for the Political Voices Network Substack, but that man is just so dreamy. I met him at the DNC in August and I wish I could’ve had more time with him than this chance encounter. LE SIGH.
Democrats are the hottest. Democrats from New Jersey are extra hot. RECOGNIZE.
That mood boost will hopefully keep things optimistic over here. Every April, I hope to land a literary agent for my birthday, and this year is no different. Sales for The Sound of Settling have stalled a bit lately thanks to the garbage fire raging all around us. I get that sitting down with a book seems challenging right now, but it’s also a perfect escape from everything challenging you. Consider it a birthday present to me and then share it with someone else! There’s also now an AI-generated audio version, which just makes me want to get a proper publishing deal more than ever so I can voice the real audiobook, or maybe get Eve Hewson to do it because I want her to play Lila in the streaming series we’re manifesting.
That would really be the icing on the cake, my friends! Let’s see how many copies of my beloved rock and roll love story we can sell by the end of the month!
Another great birthday present would be more of you upgrading to a paid subscription. Even the lowest level gives you the special privilege of commenting, which I hope you’ll consider so we can have conversations, rather than me just monologuing into the abyss of the Information Superhighway.
And please join me tomorrow on THE TARA SHOW with my name-twin Tara Devlin as we tackle the Trumpy truths and other topics. We go live at 2 pm/11 am, so make sure you’re a part of the conversation!
Happy Birthday month to US, Tara! You are 26th, I am 25th. You will be 56, I will be 56. You're like my much cooler, younger sister! Keep up the great work...And I think it will be easier to get a movie/miniseries deal after the sequel comes out...just sayin'.
Mine is the 29th.
Happy Birthday.
If I were 16 years younger....
