I sold the 700th copy of my rock & roll love story The Sound of Settling last night on Amazon, which is a big fucking deal to me.
So I asked AI to create an image of 700 books and this is what it came up with:
If that was real, you’d be like WHOA THAT *IS* A LOT OF BOOKS, TARA!
I made a TikTok about it, because books are supposed to blow up on TikTok. There’s a whole TikTok shelf at Powell’s, although my book isn’t on that one—it’s on the Small Press shelf, with only one copy currently available.
While Colleen Hoover and others have gone crazy viral thanks to BookTok, my videos about my book usually get less than 100 views, if that. I use all the right hashtags, but just today one of my 6050 followers commented that I had shown up on her FYP for the first time in forever.
6050 followers. My book should have exploded already on BookTok.
But this video I made yesterday has all of 26 views as of this writing. Shit is fucked up, yo.
So, how do I go viral? BEATS ME, especially when I have almost 112K followers on Twitter and I’ve been relentless with the self-promotion, as you all know.
There are also over 2000 of you subscribing at various levels, and if all of you would buy The Sound of Settling, that would be a wonderful boost. It’s $10 on Kindle (or free if you have Kindle Unlimited) and $16 in paperback.
If you’re too strapped—and you know I understand this because I’ve told you repeatedly how much I understand this—sharing links on your socials is completely free AND it makes a difference. You never know who’ll also see it and share it.
