It’s me, hi! I’m the problem, it’s me.
Clearly, or else I’d have a book deal by now.
Look, I know we’re supposed to manifest our success by speaking it into the universe or whatever, but after 13 years of self-promotion on Twitter and not much to show for it on the real-world side of my screen other than the occasional cool swag, I had to figure out a better way to monetize the writing projects I care about the most. Which have absolutely nothing to do with politics.
While I can’t even tell you how grateful I am to be writing for both HillReporter and Occupy Democrats, even the most passionate of political junkies needs a break from the endless churning cycle of MAGA madness.
When the lockdowns began, I decided my self-care would come in the form of finishing a writing project I’d started before the TrumpChaos began. Inspired by the best meet-cool ever, The Sound of Settling is my favorite thing that I’ve ever written, and since it has nothing to do with politics, I can’t get anyone to pay attention to it. And that’s where you come in, my friend and reader.
I’m going to start serializing my rock and roll love story through this Substack until someone out there (besides me) who has the power to make things happen screams THIS MUST BE A REAL BOOK EVERYONE CAN HOLD AND ALSO A MOVIE WITH A KILLER SOUNDTRACK. Because I can see it and hear it in my head, and people should pay attention to me when I say I can hear things in my head (and not in the “maybe you should get help” way).
So! Please subscribe and join me on this crazy journey, and I hope to be able to someday give you a real book you can hold in your hands, and a movie with a killer soundtrack. The paid content will be slightly different, and I promise to thank everyone in the Acknowledgements who gave up some of their hard-earned shekels for me.
While I’ll always be a passionate Democrat and will never stop fighting for what is right, I also don’t want to make the rest of my life about politics when I could be making it about music and art instead. I bet plenty of you understand that. The burnout is real, but we can fix that by making this project more real.
Thank you, and I love you!
Tara
