I’ve had a Google Alert set for myself for years thanks to whatever visibility I’ve achieved on Twitter and as a political writer.
It’s not like it happens every day, but I can’t possibly know if someone’s written about me somewhere out there on the vast (mis)Information Superhighway unless the Google tells me about it.
If I had to break it down, I’d say a healthy 95% of those alerts lead me to articles using my tweets; the kids over at Raw Story especially like to use them. I’ve popped up on other liberal websites as well, which always results in a boost in my follower count. The other 5% are usually dumbfuck right-wing sites that use terms like “bleeding heart liberal” and “leftie,” which always makes me laugh, because who the fuck cares what someone in the Red Hat Kool Aid Death Squad thinks?
Until yesterday, that is.
I woke up to a Google Alert email linking me to an article on MSNBC.com. HEY COOL my just-woke-up brain thought. I’ve been trying to get on MSNBC forever because most of their best anchors follow me back on Twitter. But then it wasn’t cool, because it turned out that it was straight-up defamation.
“There’s a reason liberal moms are jumping on the election conspiracy train,” writes Lyz Lenz.
This bitch goes on to portray yours truly as a “conspiracy theorist” and “election denier” who’s “gone down a rabbit hole.”
If that wasn’t bad enough, the article also went out in MSNBC’s daily morning news e-letter to I have no idea how many subscribers on Wednesday. So that’s two mornings in a row that I’ve woken up to defamation.
So, first of all, FUCK YOU, Lyz Lenz. This bitch posted on Bluesky that she was looking for Democrats who were pushing for a recount and then wrote about “mom bloggers” without interviewing either of us. So, that’s fun for me professionally.
Then I found out Lyz is a Tara Reade supporter who thinks Joe Biden is a rapist. I don’t know how such a shitty person is writing for MSNBC, but also everyone seems to be letting fascism just take over everything before the election has been certified.
I’ve already emailed MSNBC’s legal department. I want a full retraction and an apology. I could sue them for millions. I’ll give them a little time, but I’m not letting this one go.
Please call/email your members of Congress to push for a hand recount in the swing states. Don’t make me tell you why again, just please fight fascism with me!
*CLEANSING YOGIC BREATH*
In much happier news, The Sound of Settling is SELLING, y’all! And it’s all thanks to Bluesky, which I’ve already written about.
I’ve sold 88 copies in 20 days, which is almost like that song from the 80s but better because I’m so close to reaching 900 copies sold just a couple of weeks after hitting 800.
I’m so grateful for all of the positive energy around my beloved book. Your boosts matter! If you haven’t gotten a copy yet, NOW IS THE MOMENT. What if I could be the first real Bluesky/BookSky viral author? Why not me?
Thank you! I love you, and remember: FUCK FASCISM (and Lyz Lenz).
Here is my controversial take: pursuit of clicks has ruined journalism. Yeah, its pretty transgressive for me to say that, I know.
Maga is having a crack-cocaine rush right now.......we will weather the jet stream of bullshit storm. Hong together....We got your back Tara.
